I think we can agree that long hospital stays are never that pleasant. The only way to make it better is by making some plans and preparations. You should always show p with your favourite pastime plus all the essentials you think you might need during your stay. Here is what you need to do:
Gather your essentials
The first step you need to do is to prepare a bag. It is advisable that you have an emergency bag prepared and always ready for hospital emergencies. If you do not have one, you can do a quick preparation. You will need to keep all your stuff in a sizable bag to make it easy to handle. It is always advisable to keep a bag ready when you have a known illness or expecting a child.
Do not forget to bring your medicine. If you are sick, you probably should not leave your medication at home. Your doctors will want to see your medication before they start to treat you. If you completed your medication previously, you can carry the list instead. If you are still taking your medication, do not forget them home because you will need them during the stay
Carry your phone, a notebook and a pen. You will need the phone for communication with family or the nurses and doctors when you cannot reach the hospital phone. It can also be a good source of entertainment during your stay. The pen and notebook are good for family and friends to take notes from the doctor in case they forget. You will need to take down as much information as you can.
Bring something homey with you
If you have been in the hospital before, you know that you will not always get comfortable spots. For more comfort, you can bring your own perfectly wrapped pillows to make the nights more comfortable. Another personal item you should never forget for a hospital stay is a large thermos. Sometimes, nurses tend to be so busy so they may not bring you water when you need it.
It gets very boring and slow when you are chilling on the hospital bed or room alone. You can pass the time by taking something to read. Do not forget to carry reading glasses if you need them. Hospital TV’S are small and may not be up to date with the latest shows. Carrying a DVD player, phone or tablet full of your favourite movies will help you pass time as well as lift your spirits during the stay. Music is also perfect as long as it is not loud and destructive. If you are a little short of cash then a loan might help you out and make your loved one as comfortable as possible whilst they recover.
Do not forget to carry your favourite snacks. Hospital food is made for many people, which mean it is not that perfect. If the hospital allows, you can bring your own snacks and keep them refrigerated. Check with the doctor first to make sure you are not going against any potential diet recommendation. Make the most out of the stay by going for short walks, moving around, and allowing yourself to rest and heal before you are discharged.
